The key takeaway from the European white paper on AI is the following, “As digital technology becomes an ever more central part of every aspect of people’s lives, people should be able to trust it. Trustworthiness is also a prerequisite for its uptake.”
Europe is taking the right steps to address the challenges and opportunities presented by Artificial Intelligence. The EU wants to lead the world in promoting smart regulation that will enhance people’s trust in AI. Understanding how to mitigate risk through smart regulation is the best way forward if we want to expand and enhance the use of artificial intelligence worldwide and level the playing field.
This white paper goes beyond data privacy. What this means for implementers of Artificial Intelligence solutions is that they will have to think carefully and take steps to make sure their AI solution is minimizing bias, is explainable, transparent and sustainable. For companies running artificial intelligence in production, if they adhere to the principles of trustworthy AI they will minimize their risk and liability. It is a win-win for everyone when done in a smart way.
Omina Technologies has been at the forefront of Ethical and Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence since 2016 and we applaud the initiatives set forth in the “White Paper on Artificial Intelligence: A European approach to excellence and trust”. This first step from the EU was necessary and it behooves everyone involved in AI to work towards a smart regulatory framework around Artificial Intelligence.
